WS01 | Redwork Embroidery
WS01 | Redwork Embroidery
Old textiles connect us to the lives of others. The memory of those who cherished our fabrics & clothes before us live on in subtle, beautiful ways—in unique fades, repairs, or an embroidered name.
Redwork embroidery, popular starting in the late 1800s, featured simple designs of personal and cultural significance. Linens, quilts, and clothes were stitched in red with outlines of family pets, nursery rhymes, birth years, and favorite past times.
In this spirit, our workshop invites its participants to adorn their own piece of cloth with a design that is personal to them. In community with others, we will connect more deeply to our belongings, imbuing them with our own humanity for ourselves to enjoy and future generations to cherish.
Participants will be provided with:
-A personal embroidery kit to keep
-Their own antique linen
-Antique redwork textiles from the Slow Process collection to reference
-Light refreshments
