Starting in the late 1800s, redwork embroidery emerged as a simple method of creative expression at home. Linens, quilts, and clothes were adorned in red with the names of loved ones, images of family pets, popular nursery rhymes, and favorite past times. Taken as a whole, these textiles became collages of what families held dear.

In this spirit, our Valentine’s workshop invites its participants to adorn their own piece of cloth with a design that is beloved or personal to them. In community with others, we will connect more deeply to our belongings, stitch what we love into cloth, and imbue them with our own humanity for ourselves to enjoy and future generations to cherish.

This is a beginner-level workshop open to all! No experience is encouraged.

Participants will be provided with:
-A personal embroidery kit to keep
-Their own antique linen swatch to embroider
-Antique reference textiles from the Slow Process collection
-Light refreshments
